A Week of the Past

Episode One: Monday.

5:00 A.M.: Normally, i used to feel very tired and most times getting up from bed so early was not something i enjoyed doing. But when ever i remember that i really needed to be at my shop as early as possible, i immediately get up and perform my morning rituals.

Transporting myself to work has never been a big deal cause i had my own car i use for transportation.

7:00 A.M.: Business environment was always as cool as ever by this time of the day but all that changes in a matter of time. I often made sure to be the first or amongst the first set of people to arrive at work.

Monday is the beginning of business week and so some people believe that Mondays sales determines the success of the remaining days.

Most times i gave out goods on credit to my well trusted customers; goods worth as low as a hundred naira to as high as hundred thousand naira. Few times i got lucky for a direct sale, cash at hand or bank transaction.

I should rather say that my business was based on credit and sale.

9:30 A.M.: This period was the time i mostly got very busy attending to customers from all spheres both on credits and sales transactions.

Did i made mention of my apprentist? Oh i just did. He could be so helpful at times. Small Izu, i often do call him, sincere as he could be most times and adherent to my instructions.

I mostly skip breakfast, no offence to breakfast but we don't get along most mondays.

12:00 Noon: The nature of my business was buying and selling of electrical and electronics materials. Often at this hour, i made few calls to my customers; both debtors, reminding them of clearing their debts, also of new stocks and for their continous patronages.

Line customers were not left out on the calls i made. Sometimes i would take a stroll to their various shops.

2:00 P.M.: This is the period i don't joke with, spending 30 minutes for my lunch is of paramount importance and i always made sure to have a decent and nourishable meal. Most times it was porridge beans and yam.

The next couple of minutes that runs before four o'clock was also a period that got me engaged with more sales and credit.

There was always a rush and demand for goods from line customers; i do call them line because they were in same line of business and same area as well.

The nature of my business does not allow for decent dressing, so it is anyhow kind of dress code but atleast there was always a bit of decency.

Total sales may rise up to a hundred thousand meanwhile credit was always higher.

4:00 P.M.: Another most active period of my apprentist, he does all the collection of money for goods on credit from line customers while i do the calling. But there were always Judas, and that was were i fall in and provide a helping hand.

Five-thirty to six was when i do calculate the total sales and like i said in my previous post, taking stock is everydays activity. Sometimes we made more than a hundred thousand and may even run to two hundred thousand or three.

6:30 P.M.: You don't need to be reminded that in a matter of minutes, it will all go dark as the time runs towards the evening and there was need to close business for the day.

I used to have a PS2 game that kept me busy for few hours before i could eat my dinner and pray then going to my room to spend the rest of the night.

I am OAJ.
