Mum 'cut in half' by hospital lift after giving birth in Seville

Rocio, the mother of three children was being moved through a hospital stretcher before she became trapped in a lift which moved upwards.

The shocking accident took place a day before yesterday as it was reported from Spain. She was said to have died after she was cut in half in a hospital lift, shortly after giving birth to her third daughter.

El Correro reported that the deceased had just given birth by what is called C-section and was on her way to a maternity ward were she could recover, see and spend some quality time with her newborn girl child on Sunday.

According to a Spanish newspaper report, the baby escaped unhurt.

The 25-year-old, Rocio Cortes Nunez was faced with a sudden death when she was been moved on a stretcher to another floor at the Our Lady of Valme Hospital in Seville, southern Spain, when she became trapped in the elevator.

She is survived by two other girls of ages four and five-years-old, according to a local media. rumours had it that the lift is suspected to have encountered mechanical failure, as we learnt that the lift had began moving upwards before the stretcher was fully in.

I went to the information desk. They told me that a girl had died, and then they confirmed that she was my daughter. What a cruel death she suffered, said the mother of Rocio, Carmen Nunez.
Carmen rushed to the hospital when she learnt that an accident involving a lift had occurred in the hospital. She said that her heart pounded with worries for her daughter the moment she got the sad news.
I'm a total wreck, her husband Jose Gaspar, told ABC Seville news reporters.
Meanwhile proper investigation is ongoing already as the lift was said to have gone through a maintenance test on August 12 and it complied with the regulations.
