Kenya Presidential Election Annulled, Supreme Court Orders Rerun Within 60 Days

There were instant jubilation from an opposition strongholds in Nairobi over a court ruling on Friday which saw to the nullification of the Kenyan Presidential Election won by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The ruling was declared on Friday morning by the Kenyan Supreme court, the court set aside the election with a majority of the court membership ruling that the election fell short of constitutional provisions.

A fresh election will now be held within 60 days.

Kenya has said to have created history as the first country in Africa t annul a presidential election and opposition activists are rejoicing at the historic decision.

The opposition party has claimed that the presidential elections were riddled with irregularities, on the basis that the election was not conducted according to the constitution and Election Act.
The declaration of Kenyatta's win is invalid, null and void. The election commission failed, neglected or refused to conduct the presidential election in a manner consistent with the dictates of the constitution, said Judge David Maraga announcing the verdict of four out of six judges.
