I honestly didn't know i was carrying four babies.
There have been a great joy and happiness at the Vryheid Hospital in northern KZN, South Africa, as a team of Nurses have successfully helped in the delivery of a quadruplets without any complication.
The mother of the quadruplets, 30 years-old, hails from Jabilile Sangweni in eDumbe, successfully delivered a boy and three girls with the help of nurses Simphiwe Nomali Buthelezi and her team.
Sangweni, who was shocked at giving birth to four healthy kids despite claiming not to be aware of them cause she was only expecting one child. She was taken to the hospital on Thursday morning at 07:30, August 31 with labour pains, by an ambulance that carried her from her home.
I honestly didn't know i was carrying four babies. I was surprised when the nurse told me i was carrying more than one child. I was really not expecting it. I didn't know what to say. I was shocked, but am excited now, Sangweni was quoted saying.Meanwhile throughout her ante-natal period of attending to an eDumbe mobile clinic, she had no idea that she was carrying four babies.
Luckily for her, she is in a full and speedy recovery, while her kids are receiving proper medical attention at the Vryheid Hospital.
When i arrived in the ward, we examined the mother and discovered that indeed there might be more than one baby in her. We then helped her deliver the second baby.
We were quite surprised to learn that there was a third baby still coming. We then helped her deliver once more. Now, according to our training, triplets are far more common than quadruplets, so it would have been easy to assume that the third baby was the last one and that she had had triplets. But when we checked, we discovered a fourth baby. We were truly surprised. The nurse Buthelezi, described the ordeal. She first delivered a male child at 08:00, which weighed 1.37kg; the second child was delivered at 08:05, which weighed 880g. The third child was at 08:10, weighed 940g and the last girl at 08:25, weighed 1.1kg.
