Funny enough! Lols! A 17 year old boy who escaped from the Bayelsa State police detention has been sentenced to 40 strokes of cane and six weeks of community service.
The boy of seventeen was arrested for stealing a cell phone and a bicycle, though he escaped when he had the chance through a broken ceiling at a police detention facility before he was rearrested and arraigned.
The juvenile was found guilty of stealing a mobile phone, a bicycle and escaping from police detention at the Yenagoa magistrate court on the 27th of September
For escaping police detention centre, he was given the punishment of 10 strokes of cane and 30 minutes of community service for three weeks, and then for stealing a bicycle and a mobile phone, an addition of 30 strokes and 30 minutes of community work for three weeks.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police and spokesman for Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, in confirming his punishment said that the teenager who has been handed over to his parents has started sweeping the Swali market in Yenagoa for 30 minutes daily.
The teenager was pictured sweeping the Swali market on Wednesday and he will carry on with community service sentence for six weeks.
